Homemade skin care recipes

Postby sherrie215 on Tue Feb 26, 2008 1:23 am

I have alot more recipes listed on the MBA site http://www.mybeautyaddiction.com/beautytips.html but here are a few that I havent put up on the site that I thought I would share here:

Raspberry Orange Scrub
Author HBN President Donna Maria

Gentle Raspberry Orange Scrub is a great recipe to use for oily skin. Made with fresh raspberry pulp and yogurt, it will smooth, cool soothe your skin. The raspberry seeds make for wonderfully gentle exfoliation too!

Ingredients:
2 tablespoons plain yogurt
1 tablespoon raspberry pulp with seeds
2 drops orange essential oil
Measure the yogurt and set aside.

Make the raspberry pulp by taking 3 ounces of fresh raspberries and pulverizing 3 ounces of fresh raspberries in a food processor. Separate the juice from the seeds and pulp using a fine sieve. (You can reserve the juice and mix it with ginger ale and sugar to taste to make a fruit spritzer!)
Add 2 tablespoons of the pulp to the yogurt and stir well to mix and create a pretty pink color.
Add the essential oil last and stir well. To use, just apply to clean skin and massage gently over and over again to tone and gently exfoliate the skin. Use immediately or refrigerate no more than a day or two. Enjoy!

Grapefruit Cream Facial Mask
author HBN Founder & President Donna Maria

This is a great recipe for the summer months for nearly any skin type, especially oily and teen skin. The egg whites serve to tighten the pores and with the sour cream and grapefruit, act as a gentle astringent.

Ingredients:
1 teaspoon fresh grapefruit juice
1 teaspoon sour cream
1 egg white
1 drop grapefruit essential oil

Beat egg white until fluffy. Add sour cream and mix well. Add grapefruit juice and stir to combine.
Apply to clean face and neck skin and relax for 15 minutes. Rinse well with warm water and follow with toner and moisturizer as usual.

Honey Pineapple Mask
author HBN President Donna Maria

This easy to make blend of ingredients will help smooth and soothe skin. Pineapple contains bromelain, a natural alpha hydroxy acid, which helps supplement the skin's natural exfoliation process by loosening and sloughing away the top layer of dead skin cells.

Ingredients:
4 chunks (each about 1 inch thick) pineapple
1 tablespoon honey
1 tablespoon whipping cream
2 level tablespoons finely powdered oats

Place the pineapple chunks in a small food processor and process until pulverized.
Add the honey and cream to the pineapple and process further. Add the powdered oats last and process until a smooth, yet slightly chunky (due the pineapple pieces) mixture is formed.
To use, cleanse face and neck thoroughly. Apply Honey Pineapple Mask to face and neck in a smooth, even layer and rest for about 15 minutes.
Rinse well with warm water and follow with toner and moisturizer of your choice. Enjoy!!

Mango Mud Mask
Author IBN President Donna Maria

Mango mug mask is a perfectly simple and delightful way to use the last bit of fresh, plump mango from the summer. The oats, almonds and whipping cream act together to cleanse, smooth and lightly exfoliate the skin. The mango provides natural fruit enzymes and makes the mask smell great. Plus, since you only use part of the mango, you're left with a tasty and nutritious treat

Ingredients:
1/4 medium mango (peeled and seeded)
2 tablespoons finely powdered oats
2 tablespoons finely powdered almonds
2 tablespoons heavy whipping cream (best for driest skin; use whole milk if your skin is not so dry)

Combine all ingredients together in a small food processor and process for about 1 minute until smooth and creamy.
Add a bit of distilled water or hydrosol if mixture is too thick to spread on the skin; add some more finely powdered oats if it is too runny.
To use, pat gently over clean face and neck skin and relax for about 15 minutes. Rinse well and follow with toner and moisturizer of choice. You can also enjoy the lightly exfoliating action of the oats and almonds by massaging Mango Mud Mask lightly over your face and neck as a soothing cleanser!

Zit Zapper
Author HBN President Donna Maria

This easy-as-you-please combination has helped me zap unexpected and annoying zits overnight. Try it!

Ingredients:
1/4 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
1 drop tea tree essential oil

Saturate a cotton swap with the apple cider vinegar. Add a single drop of tea tree essential oil. Dab the cotton swab on the zit and leave overnight. Cover with a small band-aid if your pillow might rub Zit Zapper off while you sleep. When you arise, you should notice the zit has diminished.

One of my favorite facials is just extra virgin olive oil and brown sugar mixed together to form an oily paste. I apply to a clean face and gently use a circular motion to exfoliate. I leave this on for about 10 minutes. Leaves my face exfoliated, moisturized and smooth. I also use this mixure on my body after washing. Then rinse off.

One more important tip! If you love your husband, wash out that tub when you are done, sometimes it can get a bit slippery!
