quick q reg tape extensions!

Postby deel33 on Tue Mar 02, 2010 7:44 pm

hi everyone!,
VERY new to the world of DIY hair extensions. its coming up to my bfs 21st an i was hoping on getting my friend to put a 40pk of tape extensions in. i've looked on past posts and just want to know the recommended way of attaching these extensions. the pieces are small bout 2'-3' i just want to know how you attach them, (whether you attach the first piece under your hair an finish with sandwiching the second piece on top or start on top and press against the hair, sandwiching the second piece underneath)? also, positioning wise, how do you place the extensions to make them less noticable, in particular towards the top of the head? bit embarrassing asking such simple questions, my friend has always cut and coloured my hair so shes a bit of a natural with it all, i just want to have a bit more knowlegde about the extensions myself.
thanks heaps! :)

Hi Deel33! Welcome to the forum.

It's great that you have done some research on taped extensions already. As you have probably already guessed, there is more than one way to apply them. You can sandwich them (one on top of section/one on bottom of section) or you can just layer them throughout the head. Sandwiching would require more pieces and will likely be thicker. It also would be more secure since having the two pieces with tape on both allows for a stronger bond. It really depends on how long you want to wear them. If you want to wear them for about four weeks or longer, I would sandwich them going from bottom to top.

Near your crown area, you may want to keep the wefts further from your part depending on the length of your hair. If you have thick hair, you may get away with putting them closer to your part. Again, it depends on the look you're going for. I'm not sure if you are using some skin wefts or just regular taped extensions. Skin wefts will allow you to go right up to your part without being detectable (mostly). If you have thinner hair, you will definitely want to keep a good amount of your own hair out to cover the tapes. Frenchie has a great tut on here on how she installs hand-tied wefts high up on her head, but I think it's with liquid gold glue.

Hope I haven't confused you! :D
